Today is officially a sucky, sucky day. First problem is that my external hard drive, which I was using as my primary storage device (mostly because its twice the size of my internal HDD) has bricked itself. I'm looking at a minimum $89 to get the data off it, if possible, plus the cost of a new drive and the earliest possibility it Tuesday. And to top of such a wonderful day, I sit down to watch a new episode of Sanctuary, take a bite of some hawaiian crunch and think I get some stuck in my teeth in an awkward spot but a little more investigation shows that one of my teeth has actually broken off. Small mercy that it doesn't hurt except for the sharp edge but its more problems that I didn't need. There are days when my life well and truly sucks Current Mood: frustrated |

Movies, Money and Schadenfreude
Went to see Hoodwinked II with freddo last night and it was definitely an up and down sort of experience. The movie itself was rather... meh. Definitely lacked the fractured fairy tale spark that made the first one so good, but it wasn't bad as such. The 3D really didn't add anything at all though, which leads me to my first bad point. Birch Carrol & Coyle/ Event Cinemas have at some point upped their prices for 3D movies to $20 a ticket, even on Cheap Tuesdays. Sure you've always had to pay a little more but on Tuesdays you still got some off but no longer apparently. Next is that VMax Cinema, which at least at the Myer Centre, seems to be where they're directing all the 3D movies, which adds another 3 dollars to the ticket price. So $23 dollars all up for the ticket. And the VMax was... not worth it. Supposedly an upgrade over regular cinemas with better seating but ultimately I cannot endorse it. The plus side is that the seating is wider which is a plus for someone of... wider girth such as myself. On the down side the padding on the seats is minimal and uncomfortably hard and while regular seats have a slight recline, the VMax ones do not which coupled with their hard padding ultimately made them less comfortable than regular seating, especially since in a less crowded session I can always just lift up the arm rest for some extra room. Which leads me to the schadenfreude. Despite being over charged, and me being rather underwhelmed at least freddo and I were able to take consolation in the fact that they must have lost hundreds of dollars on that screening alone since we were the only ones at that particular screening. The largest cinema in the complex, recently renovated on a fairly average weekday evening session and it was occupied by only two people. And if that was any indication at all the decision to put all 3D sessions in VMax may be biting them on the corporate ass, at least with Hoodwinked II. |

Wunderbar!
I just recieved an early Christmas present that I could have lived without. After several years thinking that I was among the fortunate ones who never had to worry about my wisdom teeth becuase I didn't have any tonight I was proven wrong. The rear of my lower gums has been tender for a couple of weeks but I always put it down to me constantly getting peanuts or seeds from buns getting stuck back there. However when attempting to remove what I thought was a particularly stubborn seaseme seed (I had garlic bread tonight) I realised that what I was feeling wasn't stuck to my gum, it was sticking through my gum. A quick check proved that it was matched by one on the other side. Fortunately there's a lot of room back there for them to come in and a quick check with Mum and Dad reveals no family history of trouble with their Wisdom Teeth. So fingers crossed becuase I really can't afford the dental bills. Current Mood: toothy |

Quizzage! Attempt 2!
Stolen shamelessly from freddo Your Score: Humphrey Bogart You scored 30% Tough, 4% Roguish, 52% Friendly, and 14% Charming! You're the original man of honor, rough and tough but willing to stick your neck out when you need to, despite what you might say to the contrary. You're a complex character full of spit and vinegar, but with a soft heart and a tender streak that you try to hide. There's usually a complicated dame in the picture, someone who sees the real you behind all the tough talk and can dish it out as well as you can. You're not easy to get next to, but when you find the right partner, you're caring and loyal to a fault. A big fault. But you take it on the chin and move on, nursing your pain inside and maintaining your armor...until the next dame walks in. Or possibly the same dame, and of all the gin joints in all the world, it had to be yours. Co-stars include Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall, hot chicks with problems.
Find out what kind of classic dame you'd make by taking the Classic Dames Test.
I can live with Bogey quite happily. Play it again Sam! |

I'm not one to use this journal for ranting all that much, but for this I'll make an exception. First it must be said.... I HATE THE COMMONWEALTH BANK!!!
In related news DVD Pacific seems to have charged me twice for my order of Haruhi Vol 1 LE. That at least seems to have been corrected but all in all, I've had better days. Current Mood: royally pissed |

Curse you gods of airconditioning!
It's 35C (that's pushing a hundred for the metrically impaired) for the third day in a row, the humidity had just skyrocketed beyond belief, there's not a hint of a breeze and I'm sweating like a pig. In other words its a normal summer day in SE Queensland but for one thing. I daren't turn the airconditioners on for after a couple of days of nice, chilled air goodness I now have a head cold and the air conditioning is only going to make it worse. There are days I hate my sinuses, though normally those are in winter. Current Mood: congested |

Yet more memage, this time gacked from 'The Angry Astronomer' (http://angryastronomer.blogspot.com/) Rules are simple. Grab the nearest book, go to page 123, go to the fifth scentence and then write down the three scentences following that. Then nominate three more people to attempt this. The nearest book to me (though not by much) is Jacqeline Carey's 'Kushiel's Chosen' The lines are: Oh Joscelin! With an effort, I kept my voice level. "My Lady Archivist, who has access to these records?" Doesn't make much sense out of context. Well I'm going to nominate freddo windtear and gryffinseye to keep this up. I know windtear has her entire bookcase sitting right near her computer so she should have fun choosing one. Current Mood: bouncy |

Ganked from Fred I don't know about the Harry Potter law but then again the fanbrats are a powerful force (and may account for my popularity rating). I don't know why electo-collars for idiots would be unpopular with anyone but idiots, even if there are alot of them out there. The mansion surrounded by storm clouds makes up for all other short-comings though. Current Mood: bouncy |
